Martin Mentors Mangan For Sky Arts "First Love" At The End Of This Month

Six famous faces from music, television and politics rekindle their relationship with their first love this January on Sky Arts 1 HD. First Love will see Alastair Campbell, Shaun Ryder, Sue Perkins, Carl Cox, Stephen Mangan and Sophie Winkleman rediscover the passion they once had for music before forging their successful careers in very different fields.

Each week, a different celebrity will retrain in their musical ‘first love’, learning and relearning long forgotten skills from childhood. Paired with a musical mentor, each celebrity will undergo rigorous training to get them ready for the performance of their lives.

Stephen Mangan: Folk guitar at the Cambridge Folk Festival: Tuesday 31 January at 8pm on Sky Arts 1.

Actor and folk fan Stephen Mangan started playing the acoustic guitar at University, but soon his career and growing family took over. As he approaches 40, Stephen is getting his guitar out of storage to reclaim part of his old self. Under the eye of award winning Martin Simpson, Stephen retrains to play Sandy Denny’s iconic “Who Knows Where the Time Goes” alongside his guitar hero, Grammy nominated Richard Thompson, in front of 8,000 people at the Cambridge Folk Festival. But as the song starts to take on a very personal meaning, Stephen realises he and his old self are two very different people
