All of us here at Simpsonian Music are so sorry to hear of the death of legendary songwriter and guitarist, Bert Jansch, an influence on us all and a lovely man. Widely acknowledged as one of the most influential musicians of all time, he passed away at 12.30am this morning, after a battle with lung cancer.
Bert was acknowledged by many great guitarists as a huge influence on them, including the likes of Jimmy Page, Bernard Butler, Graham Coxon and Martin himself. He received 2 Lifetime Achievement Awards at the BBC Folk Awards, one in 2001 for his solo achievements and the other as member of Pentangle in 2007.
He was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2009, but after treatment went on to perform a two-month, co-headlining US tour with Neil Young last year and with Pentangle was one of the headline acts at this year's Cambridge Folk Festival.
We all send our love and strength and our deepest condolences to Loren Jansch and to Bert and Loren's family.
